The world rallying to Bush?
Ok, that is a bit much, but the Sarkozy victory in France is noteworthy. Over the last few years, when European youths would protest, march, firebomb, or burn Bush in effigy, that was cited as proof that we have alienated our allies, a false slur that Andre loves to throw around. So now that one of the most defiantly leftist and anti-American countries in western Europe has elected what the AP calls “a blunt and uncompromising pro-American conservative,” this is no doubt a tremedous sign for Bush, no?
The reality is of course more complex, but then again, so is almost all of the other evidence liberals cite to demonstrate our supposed diplomatic freefall. Tonight, there are scores of liberal bloggers and Democrats who are saddened by the decision of the French people, which says far more about the current Democrats than it does about the French.
