Friday Night Punk Part Deux- Fall Out Boy

Posted in Conservatives, Friday Night Punk by Andre the Defiant on May 12th, 2007

This was the video I was originally going to post tonight, but I was listening to Johnny and decided on him instead. But after reading Dave’s post, I figured what the heck. It’s one of the best punk bands of the last five years, and while my ex would chide me for posting what he would call “Bubble-gum punk”, he has cut off his blue mohawk and is now a sommelier at a fancy restaurant, so who cares what he thinks.

My question to Dave is simple, do you think that teens having sex is a new phenomenon? I can guarantee you that almost all of E’s students have seen this video and know and love this song (though they probably sing it incorrectly… it’s “arms race” not a freakin’ “earthquake”… earthquake doesn’t even make sense!), but the videos from our day were about the same. Of course the Beatles once drove girls crazy, and Elvis before them. What is so hard to understand about the concept of teaching these poor, impressionable kids that what they are feeling is not naughty, or disgusting, but part of being human, and then telling them that abstinence is the best route, but if you do decide to give into the hormones that God gave you, use a condom!

Then again, I believe that Dave thinks the HPV vaccine is nothing more than a gateway drug, so I am probably wasting my keystrokes.

Heck, a large portion of my students have seen it and like it.

Sorry, I still think of DFV the lawyer, not the teacher.

And if you overhear you students singing “earthquake”, I expect harsh corporal punishment to be applied. :)

    That’s funny. :)

Andre scores again with Friday Night Punk. Three in a row. I haven’t heard that song but I could see my students liking it.

Actually, my views on the HPV vaccine might surprise you. My wife and I differ significantly on that issue….

I don’t really buy the arguments against the HPV vaccine although I don’t support forced vaccination either. Regardless of my views, the wife informed me that the girls will be getting vaccinated. Women are funny about their daughters sometimes.

I’ll aim to disappoint next time, E. If a frakking history teacher likes it, I can’t be doing my job!

My thoughts on the HPV vaccine (and my apologies to the friend I am referring to if he reads this):

I have a great friend who used to live here in San Diego, and he and his wife are two people that if I could choose those allowed to “breed”, they would be it. But they are also people who have had some, uh, indescretions in their respective pasts.

Both were raised in very conservative households, and both are now flaming liberals, but they really love each other, and they decided to try to have kids.

Then preliminary cervical cancer hit. Guess why. HPV. They asked no questions of each other, they just dealt with it, and through the great thing that is modern medicine, they now have a BEAUTIFUL daughter.

With the vaccine, the middle step would have never happened, as it is 100% effective.

If you think that just a good upbringing is enough, think about ten years down the road, where one “mistake” may wreak havoc on your kids’ lives.
