Thursday Flashback–Jimi Hendrix
I mentioned in the last Flashback that I have very vivid memories of my older relatives attending the Atlanta Pop Festival in 1970.
Lucky for all of us who weren’t there, this performance of Red House preformed at the Festival is one of the most laid back, bluesy, smokin’ versions ever filmed.
In 1996 I did my first commissioned artwork for the Hendrix estate. As a devoted Hendrix disciple, it was a dream come true. I only wished I had got to see him preform live. Enjoy!

That man was just an open channel!! Thanks for the vid.
Hendrix was simply too amazing of a human being not to die young.
Jimmy was a great guitarist of course. I never go to see him live either. I am often perplexed though as to why people consider him to be the best. Duane Allman was better I think. If he had lived longer and had a larger body of work I think it would be clearer to more people. Eric Clapton is better. There are many others who could be mentioned too.
So much of Hendrix stuff was just too noisy to me. It is a more participatory form of music, like New Orleans club jazz late at night. It is loved best by the wasted. Still I do like quite a bit of what he did.
Thom, sorry but I have to disagree completely with your statement. There was nothing romantic about his death.

What else is new
Allman and Clapton have different styles than Hendrix so it is a mtter of taste. I’m guessing you probably like Hendrix’s more laid back songs “The Wind Cries Mary” “Castles Made of Sand?” To each his own. No one’s ever right or wrong when it comes to musical tastes. Except for Michael Bolton fans of course. They are the Nader voters of the music world.
The Hendrix legacy was made greater by his death. I too like Hendrix stuff but I don’t know that he was as good as, say, Joe Satriani. He was a great rocker and an epic drug user. And unfortunately he is defined in those terms.
