Tyler Ziegel and Renee: One Year Later

I just read this story. It was a follow up to the wedding between these young kids that were so greatly affected by the Iraq war. Ty, after being severely disfigured by a bomb blast came home to an 18 yr old sweetheart who stuck by his side during the most traumatic period of his life. Shortly thereafter, they were married. Today I found out they have been divorced since January. There is no bitterness between the two and they both still care for each very much, but realized that they were too young to be married.
This story is very compelling and the courage that both have exhibited should show us all how to be better people.
Tyler Ziegel is an American hero if there ever was one. The ongoing battles he faces in his daily life make our small troubles pale in comparison. Thank you Ty, and may you find the happiness that you surely deserve.

There are many fine and brave soldiers who have greatly sacrificed for their country in the current conflicts we are engaged in. Some with their limbs, some with their bodies that will carry scars for the rest of their lives, and some with their lives. We thank them for their service to their country.
The average American soldier from the Revolution to the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and every war in between have often paid a terrible price for fighting for their country. Man’s inhumanity to man and his hatred for each other based on religion and ideology stretches back into antiquity and has been the curse of the human race since Cain killed Abel. We can only hope for a day when we no longer maim and slaughter each other in the name of false religions and ideological zealotry. The enemy we face thinks nothing of killing and maiming not only US soldiers but each and every one us simply because we are Americans and infidels. In the flurry of politics and the jockeying for government power we forget that this is not a game to them, but a deadly and earnest battle against the United States, Christianity and Western Civilization. They seek our humiliation and ultimate destruction and would think nothing of slitting your wife’s or sweetheart’s throat and slaughtering your children in their beds. They are ruthless, vicious, without conscience or logic. And the thin veneer of civilization is protected from the barbarians of the world by men and women like this young marine.

Your vision of the Middle East is truely obscured. Surely I feel for the men and women who sacrifice their lives, but they are not protecting or helping their company. They are in the middle East fighting a war for oil tycoons. An oil pipeline is the true reason soldiers are being sacrificed helplessly. Be informed. This has nothing to do with protecting our civilization.

Be informed?? You still believe the discredited nonsense about an oil pipeline? Good grief. Not even anti-war types still push that stuff.

I’d say I’ll wait for links to maps or news of this real-life pipeline that goes directly to our oil tankers but I won’t hold my breath. More foolish comments like that from Open Mind are difficult to come by.

Please review your senseless and baseless views of the Middle East. It is insensitive comments like this which fuel the deep resentment between both entities. The world does not revolve around the United States or the Western world for that matter. And i am saying this as an American citizen. We must not let this degenerate into a useless ‘us vs them’ issue.
