Dave’s Quote of the Day
So much for civility. I’d like to see my Obamanite neighbor come over and try to get in my face…
“I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” – Barack Obama (source)

Hm. Ya know, the word “independent” always bugged me. People like Mark Levin (whom I adore) always rags on us, assuming we can’t make up our minds– we’re “on the fence”. Not so.
I guess my definition of “independent” is different. I define it as one not registered with either party. I’m conservative. The Republican party has strayed too far from its conservative base over the years (hence the term RiNO, which was unheard of back in Reagan’s administration). The Republicans in office have been out of control in spending, almost as much as the Democrats– quite a disappointment over the years.
I couldn’t in good conscience sign up with them. Maybe if the pendulum swings back I’ll consider it. Palin is a good start. And just because I’m not registered doesn’t mean I don’t send small donations to a candidate.
P.S. Top o’ the morning to ye (all)! Comin’ atcha from Co. Sligo, Ireland this Thursday morn.

My favorite was the comment at the source site..simply stating:
“BRING…..IT……ON…..”
Makes me want to put a McCain/Palin sign in my yard.

They’re like militant Jehova’s Witnesses.
Enjoy the Emerald Isle Mo. One of these days I need to pay a visit to the ancestral homeland. Everyone I know who went loved it.

If you do not go Thom then you will die never really knowing what the color green really is. It really is a magical place.
I do hope Mo is enjoying herself. I visited Ireland thirty years ago. Then it was really a third world country. The poverty was terrible. Now it has one of the highest standards of living in Europe. It is living concrete proof that low taxes and freedom from excessive regulation lifts a people up.
I have been to quite a few places in my life (boy do I miss traveling). The Irish as a group were the warmest by far. Yes I do hope Mo is having a good time.
Will do you have any idea how cheap the beer and whisky is over there?

Another ringing endorsement. I’ve been told the Guinness there is not only cheaper but tastes better. It’s pretty darn good here so I’ll hve to experience that to believe it myself.
“Now it has one of the highest standards of living in Europe. It is living concrete proof that low taxes and freedom from excessive regulation lifts a people up.”
So I understand. Good to see the Irish pull thejmselves up by their bootstraps. The economy there is booming so much that they are holding job fairs in New York (as well as elsewhere I’m sure) to try to lure talented Americans there so they can keep up with their growth.

Dave- And? I guess I’m not seeing the outrage in what he said.
Mo- Is this your first time in Ireland? If so, go do a “Fungee Tour” down in Dingle. It’s touristy as hell, but really fun. But the highlight of Dingle is the stained glass art in the church about a block and a half up the street from the main port area.
Also go wait in line for the Book of the Kells, and then ignore the book itself and head straight to the library. Some of the original works they have are just amazing (a first edition of Newton’s Principe de Mathematics was my favorite)
Lastly, eat some honeycomb ice cream. And then write Ben and Jerry and tell them they need to sell it here.

Andre, if you’re not “seeing the outrage” then you’re completely ignoring the previous statements Obama has made re: a civil campaign. That’s pretty much the rub. Especially when you factor in other comments he’s made re: being a product of Chicago politics and ‘they bring a knive, you bring a gun’. It’s all about the illusion.

It’s about a lack of civility and respect for others. A win at any cost mentality that is currently practicing one of the great attempts at character assassination in poliitical history on a certain Alaskan governor. Disgraceful.

Do you mean like reproducing disgusting false accusations that Obama did crack and had sex with a gay hooker? Or going with the ridiculous birth certificate smear? Those kinds of disgraceful attempts at character assassination?
I agree that those are disgusting, and they are just from this blog. ‘Psst – Dave you have this thing in your eye…..never mind’.

BTW – There have been an abundance of ‘attempts at character assassination in poliitical history’ that are far worse than what is being done to Palin.
For instance James Madison’s opponents (some of those Christian forefathers we admire so much) accused Dolly Madison of having sex with Thomas Jefferson.
James Monroe was involved in using an affair that Alexander Hamilton had against him.
Do you want me to go on? This is called politics.
Again, though it pains me to admit it, I agree with Andre. It s kind of had to find anything outrageous in what Obama said.

This is my second time in Ireland. First time was the year before they switched to the Euro; much more expensive this time around, coupled with the exchange rate.
That first time we drove the Ring of Kerry, spent first half of the trip with Limerick as home base and saw the Cliffs of Mohrer, visited relatives in Clare & Tipp.; second half we stayed in Cork (or “Cark”, as the locals say) and went to Kinsale and Cobh– basically, stayed in the SW quad.
This time we concentrated mostly NW. Spent a day on the largest of the Aran Islands– highly recommended! Mr. Mo wants to move there.
Today we hiked up the Knocknarea and visited the huge cairn of Maeve’s Tomb.
Fantastic trip– not the best weather (“Hannah” was a factor), but we’ve had some rain-free days. So can’t complain.
We’ve noticed quite a difference in just 8 yrs, so I can only imagine how much it’s changed in 30!
Thanks for the well wishes, guys. Coming back to good ol’ USA Sunday afternoon.

Sheesh. “Get in their face” is a methaphor people. It means don’t sheepishly slink away from the bald-faced lies that are coming out about The Anointed One (BTW, can we retire that one yet, just as you guys asked me to do of “Dear Leader”, or does it have a bit more of a shelf-life?)
PG is right though , this is politics as it always has been, and feigned outrage is also just part of the game.
