A Great Idea

Presented without comment:

Sarah Palin likes to tell voters around the country about how she “put the government checkbook online” in Alaska. On Thursday, Palin suggested she would take that same proposal to Washington.

“We’re going to do a few new things also,” she said at a rally in Cedar Rapids. “For instance, as Alaska’s governor, I put the government’s checkbook online so that people can see where their money’s going. We’ll bring that kind of transparency, that responsibility, and accountability back. We’re going to bring that back to D.C.”

There’s just one problem with proposing to put the federal checkbook online - somebody’s already done it. His name is Barack Obama.

  1. This blog has degenerated into to juvenile cheerleading by both sides. I can not recall the last post that was more substantial than “My daddy can beat up your daddy’.

Without getting into your favorite ‘tit-for-tat’ game Andre, how is this is different from Obama’s and Biden’s miscues?

  2. Theirs weren’t delivered in an accent like Francis McDormand in Fargo.

  3. You just proved my point Wes.

Here is a little ‘tat’ in response…

As I said in my last column, I have become increasingly uneasy about Obama’s efforts to sound folksy and approachable by reflexively using inner-city African-American tones and locutions, which as a native of Hawaii he acquired relatively late in his development and which are painfully wrong for the target audience of rural working-class whites that he has been trying to reach. Obama on the road and even in major interviews has been droppin’ his g’s like there’s no tomorrow. It’s analogous to the way stodgy, portly Al Gore (evidently misadvised by the women in his family and their feminist pals) tried to zap himself up on the campaign trail into the happening buff dude that he was not. Both Gore and Obama would have been better advised to pursue a calm, steady, authoritative persona. Forget the jokes — be boring! That, alas, is what reads as masculine in the U.S.

Are you really are so immature that you can not step back and look at anything dispassionately? My point was that people fixate on silly crap of no consequence. You respond to my point by fixating on more silly crap of no consequence. You show no signs of intellectual honesty Wes.

I was not defending Palin you blissfully unaware fanatic. Geez.

BTW – I have always though people from the south sounded like morons. Your observation regarding her accent was infantile.

  4. [...] enough knowledge to speak candidly with reporters and allow them to ask questions. She does things like Andre mentioned and talks about things that don’t pass a basic truth test. And this is still ongoing. [...]

  5. Sorry, PG, but we have less than seven weeks to go until a presidential election. There’s going to be quite a bit of “my daddy can beat up your daddy”.

  7. I’ve never tried to hide the fact that I’m personally more initerested in the politics than the policies. Most of the sites I read are about Congressional races and polling/political trends. Oh, and I love the snark, of course.

Also, beside Iraq, the issues I care most about don’t really tickle anyone else’s fancy here (gay rights, climate change, medical marijuana, etc), so I don’t post on them very often.
