Why I am Proudly Voting for Obama

with 6 comments

Dave posted an e-mail which claimed Barack Obama wants to form a scary new paramilitary force to defend us.  He claimed that the speech was “odd looking”, and that the press should really be asking questions about it.  The e-mail even included a clip of the speech, taken completely out of context, to back up said paramilitary claim.  So I looked up the speech, given in my home town (a GOP stronghold, I might add), in its entirety.

It’s almost half an hour long, but personally, it reminded me why I am happily going to vote for Obama.

So I have a challenge for Dave.  What, exactly, are the questions that should be asked by the “Obamedia” about this speech?

  1. Brave men for well over 200 hundred years have fought and died so you could vote Andre. You should proudly vote for your candidate.

This Union shall survive. I think this country is stronger than the ideals of the Democrats. It will survive them. It is also stronger than the ideals of the Rightists. Classical Liberalism shall endure. We have walked the fine line between the tyranny of rule by the elitists and the angry passion of the mob. We will continue to do so.

The USA is a far different country than any before it in history. We are not the same country we were 20 years ago, much less 200. That is true both in both form and substance. This country was designed to evolve. A culture that does not change will decay.

A student of history might recall that in 1800 and again in 1804 this country elected a man who could only be called a deist with charity. He certainly looked down his nose at Christians. We survived T.J., we will survive Obama. Can his presidency hurt the nation? Sure, so what.

  2. Looks like Obama’s got the split infinitive voters locked up.

Will you boldly go to the voting booth?

  4. It may survive, but will the Republic culture be severely weakened? That is the question. Cultural evolution or degeneration. Apparently PGW will make that call.

  5. Well, let’s assume that Barack Hussein Osama Obama really is a secret Marxist; even so, he won’t be able to impose Marxism on this country. Let’s assume that he’s been lying through his scummy teeth about cutting taxes for everyone making less than a quarter-mil — a valid assumption, because he has been lying about that, and even Andre and Wes know it — it won’t matter, because taxes will rise under John McCain as well; the only questions are about how much, not if. We’ll withdraw from Iraq, regardless of whom wins; we just don’t know how fast. Spending and the deficit will soar, regardless of the outcome; we just don’t know by how much.

The only real differences will be in judicial appointments and foreign policy, where the president has much greater independent authority. The Islamists will feel that they’ve won if we are foolish enough to elect Mr Obama, but we’ll survive that. The Frogs will be happier if we elect Mr Obama, but they’ll find something else to bitch about quickly enough.

Senator McCain is the better candidate, but only on the margins. The next president’s hands will be so seriously tied that he won’t have a lot of wiggle room on the big issues.
