One idiot’s opinion about the current crisis in Gaza
Once again when in time of crisis we can depend on Hollywood celebrities, those unsung heroes, to lend a totally nonsensical viewpoint to a major issue facing the world. Today’s contender: Roseanne Barr who bravely declares that Israel is “A Nazi state.”

First of all I think she needs a history lesson. Call me crazy but doesn’t this seem just a little contradictory? I ain’t got no fancified history degree but from what I understand the Nazis were dedicated to eliminating the Jews. You know, those people who live in Israel. So unless they are suicidal I think it would be inaccurate to describe the Israelis as Nazis.
Rosanne goes on to “ liken Hamas to “street gangs” in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Watts, saying that Israel’s military campaign is the “equivalent to Los Angeles attacking and launching war on the people of Watts to kill ‘the Bloods’ and ‘the Crips.’”
Just to inject a little reality into her nonsense the terrorists are what passes for government in the Gaza strip. The Bloods and Crips are street gangs which the US government as well as the California and local Watts governments are actively trying to wipe out. Though they both may represent lawlessness and terror in their respective corners of the world the comparison is ridiculous. Israel is at war with a terrorist organization that has seized control of the Gaza Strip and overthrown an elected government. Gangs may make like tough for the residents of Watts but the certainly don’t control every aspect of life for them and their primary goal is not the destruction of a neighboring community. Moreover if they did have some kind of armed overthrow of the local government I would have to assume that the US government would indeed step in and seize back control of the region.
Much to the chagrin of pro-Palestinians everywhere the IDF is not targeting innocent civilians. in fact they repeatedly distribute flyers informing residents of the Gaza Strip of ways turn in their captors (yes the citizens of the Gaza Strip are being held hostage by terrorists) and ways to avoid being accidentally injured or killed by IDF forces.
Just for the record Roseanne Barr is Jewish. Seriously she is. Apparently she has converted to Christianity which is all well and good but way to sell out your people on the way out the door Roseanne.

Don’t know why you’d be surprised that the lovely Miss Barr wouldn’t know much about Israel or the Palestinians or the Middle East in general; she probably gets her information from our professional media.

I wouldn’t say I’m surprised. More than a little disgusted but not surprised.

Uh-huh
“The Central Elections Commission released the final results on Sunday, January 29, 2006, and announced that Hamas had won 74 of the 132 seats, while Fatah trailed with 45. [19]
According to the results, Hamas won the large majority of the constituency seats but was more narrowly ahead on the lists. Fatah did beat Hamas in the constituencies in Qalqilya, Rafah, and Jericho. Jenin was split evenly, and Fatah won the seats reserved for Christians in Bethlehem, Jerusalem, and Ramallah”
By comparison, Prime Minister Ehud Olimert of the Israeli Kadima party only had 22% of the voters supporting his party.
As regards overthrowing an elected government:
” JERUSALEM, Feb. 13 — The United States and Israel are discussing ways to destabilize the Palestinian government so that newly elected Hamas officials will fail and elections will be called again, according to Israeli officials and Western diplomats.
The intention is to starve the Palestinian Authority of money and international connections to the point where, some months from now, its president, Mahmoud Abbas, is compelled to call a new election. The hope is that Palestinians will be so unhappy with life under Hamas that they will return to office a reformed and chastened Fatah movement.”

I love having Phoenecian pop in from time to time. And on this point I agree with him (or her). Hamas was elected.
But who cares? We support who we want to support and work with those that advance the interests of us and our allies. I think it is safe to say that lobbing rockets into cities indiscrimminately in order is not in our interests or those of our allies.

Hamas won an election in January of ‘06 then in June of ‘07 militant factions of Hamas took over in a violent coup. That is who Israel is at war with.

Slightly off topic, but there are those who “worry” about the fact that Hamas is/was voted into power. This means absolutely nothing to me at all. So was Hitler, and a variety of other thugs and tyrants. It makes them no less vile, evil or suitable for bombing back into the stone age…

1000 people were killed, half of them were kids, how can that be not targeting?
What is exactly the pictures of war that you have.
Try this true pictures for more clear thought.

Sorry but I can’t read that link. It isn’t targetting. It’s lowlife cowardly terrorists hiding amongst the innocent. And who exactly is reporting these numbers of child casualties? The Palestinians I’d assume.
And what exactly are the terrorists targetting? It’s rather hypocritical to defend those who are targetting the innocent by claiming that their opponents are doing the same is it not?
