This Could Be Interesting

Ben Smith immediately picks up the most eyebrow-raising part of Obama’s press conference:

Obama’s staff won’t elaborate, but the President-Elect said just now that he’d roll out a plan to cut the federal budget tomorrow — something both presidential candidates said they’d do, but neither detailed.

“[T]o make the investments we need, we’ll have to scour our federal budget, line-by-line, and make meaningful cuts and sacrifices as well – something I’ll be discussing further tomorrow,” Obama said.

He said later that he’d be rolling out “some reforms in Washington” tomorrow.

So apparently, tomorrow Obama makes his first official political enemy as President. Who will it be? Tradition would say defense, and there have been murmurs of Pentagon cuts (and I don’t just mean Barney Frank). I wonder who else will wind up on the chopping block.

  1. This will indeed be interesting. Both candidates avoided giving details of their cuts during the debates so who knows which way this will go?
