Hey, like you know, it could have happened to anyone. Roman Polanski on stumbling into rape.

polanski chinatownI know now it was, it was not the right thing to do,” he said at the time. “But I was, there was no premeditation, you know, it was something that just happened.

Roman Polanski – Explaining how raping a 13 year old girl after plying her with alcohol and drugs was not intentional. Sure Roman. What is more outrageous is this B.S. here regarding Polanski’s detention in Switzerland…

“Seeing him alone, imprisoned while he was heading to an event that was due to offer him praise and recognition is awful. He was trapped,” French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand said at a news conference Sunday. “In the same way there is a generous America that we like, there is also a scary America, that has just shown its face.”

Mitterrand said French President Nicholas Sarkozy is paying close attention to the case and that the French consulate may try to visit with Polanski today if allowed.

“I’m offering my support to Polanski as a French citizen and as the minister for culture. Justice has been denied to him many times in his life, and beauty is something that he has brought though his films,” he said, calling Polanski a “wonderful man” and “one of the greatest directors of all time.If the world of culture does not offer its support to Polanski, then that would mean there is no more culture in this country.”

The escaped convicted child rapist was “trapped” by a “scary America”? Now please explain to my hillbilly ass why we should curry the favor of these cheese eater surrender monkeys? Apparently if the world does not come to Roman’s defence then that would mean the death of French culture. Why it would not mean the death of culture worldwide I do not know. I guess if Roman is forced to come back and face the music one might as well burn all the Monets. They are meaningless. They are dead.

The jackass that said this is a French cabinet minister.

ADD: Who am I kidding really? There were some high profile and powerful people who praised Michal Jackson. Chinatown was a great movie I admit. Then again, talent can never excuse. I am sure of that.

  1. Phooey who gives what to whom? You’re making no sense.

This piece by Kate Harding in Salon (of all places) sums the situation up quite well:

Roman Polanski raped a child. Let’s just start right there, because that’s the detail that tends to get neglected when we start discussing whether it was fair for the bail-jumping director to be arrested at age 76, after 32 years in “exile” (which in this case means owning multiple homes in Europe, continuing to work as a director, marrying and fathering two children, even winning an Oscar, but never — poor baby — being able to return to the U.S.). Let’s keep in mind that Roman Polanski gave a 13-year-old girl a Quaalude and champagne, then raped her, before we start discussing whether the victim looked older than her 13 years, or that she now says she’d rather not see him prosecuted because she can’t stand the media attention. Before we discuss how awesome his movies are or what the now-deceased judge did wrong at his trial, let’s take a moment to recall that according to the victim’s grand jury testimony, Roman Polanski instructed her to get into a jacuzzi naked, refused to take her home when she begged to go, began kissing her even though she said no and asked him to stop; performed cunnilingus on her as she said no and asked him to stop; put his penis in her vagina as she said no and asked him to stop; asked if he could penetrate her anally, to which she replied, “No,” then went ahead and did it anyway, until he had an orgasm.

As the father of two girls, sixteen and twelve, The Beast hopes they throw the book at him.

  2. Nobody says you are Phooey, but the issue on this post is Polanski and what he did – plus the apologists’ efforts to excuse it.

Again, the parallel with American torture and the apologists’ efforts to excuse it do spring to mind.

Both are reprehensible and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Do you agree or disagee?

  3. Utterly different.

“Again, the parallel with American torture and the apologists’ efforts to excuse it do spring to mind.”

Do you support an investigation of the “alleged” torture, apologist?

  4. Phooey – I was going to lay off you because all these beatings have to be leaving marks. But you keep begging for more. Even though you are trying to hijack the thread, I am going to make a point. You may respond to my point only. If you don’t I will ban you from the thread for posting off topic.

My point is this: There is a difference between a confession and an accusation. Polanski confessed to rape. There have been only accusations of torture and war crimes to this point. As much as you believe them to be true, they are still accusations.

Now if someone confesses to torturing, or to committing war crimes, and leaves the country, and we argue against his detention and deportation, then you would have an argument. At this time you are just being argumentative.

Now do not go and argue how you know there was torture and such. You have had threads to argue your case on for that. This is not one of them.

  5. Phooey had his comment deleted for trying again to conjoin things on this thread. He also said I failed to answer a question he directed at another. If he can not take the time to figure out who he is talking to, I will not let him comment on my posts. This happens constantly. In fact it is everyday lately.

  6. Dude you are welcome to comment, really you are. I have indulged you. You are free to practice your sophistry. I enjoy exposing it. Some people have Sudoku, I expose you. To each his own.

The problem is when you are asked to move on when you try to hijack a thread. You got your little “you torture, you are not civilized” dig in. Fine, but then you need to move on. You were asked, and then told to. Yet you continued by trying a “yeah, but”. There is no yeah but.

You also do not read what people write, or the links they provide for support. You do this to me constantly. Stop it.

Worst of all you do not even pay attention to who you are talking to.

To your credit you are much less rude of late. Quit doing the other crap and things will be cool.

  7. Via Twitter: “Word on the street is: Polanski’s next movie is so good Europe’s gonna let him bang an 8 year old!”

Heh. Hollywood is self imploding over this guy.
