Power Resigns Over Hillary-Is-Monster Comment

Here’s her statement, just sent out by the campaign:

“With deep regret, I am resigning from my role as an advisor the Obama campaign effective today. Last Monday, I made inexcusable remarks that are at marked variance from my oft-stated admiration for Senator Clinton and from the spirit, tenor, and purpose of the Obama campaign. And I extend my deepest apologies to Senator Clinton, Senator Obama, and the remarkable team I have worked with over these long 14 months.”

In an interview with The Scotsman, Power called Hillary a “monster” and said other less-than-flattering things about her. Despite her prompt apology yesterday, the Hillary camp demanded her resignation this morning.

Less than two hours later, she’s out.

Late Update: As David Kurtz says, it’s worth noting that Power is a very significant player in the Obama universe — his leading foreign policy guru and someone who’s been close to him for some time. So this isn’t like the resignation of that Hillary county volunteer who spread the Obama Muslim smear email or the stepping-down of that Obama precinct captain who spread the anti-Hillary lit.

Rather, Obama is losing a key adviser and very visible advocate on foreign policy at a time when national security is front and center in the Dem primary — an outcome that helps explain why the Hillary camp pushed so hard for her ouster.

Late Late Update: I used the word “svengali” to describe Power when I meant “guru.” Words cannot express how sorry I am for this horrible insult. As a result, I am now resigning from this post and deeply regret any damage I did to it.

It has long been one of the odder aspects of what passes for Progressive “Thought” that although they decry the Moralism of the Right as simplistic-bordering-on-medieval, it is they who frame political differences as Good vs Evil. They really can’t help it, any more than a patient in the Doctor’s office can resist jerking his leg in response to a well placed whack on the patella. And one must note that while evil Republicans remain fair game, when they do this to one of their own the resulting spasm destroys careers.

How toothsome to see those chickens flapping home to roost today!

  1. This really is a shame. The professor wrote a fairly decent book awhile back. She was such an asset for the Republicans in her position in Barry “Yes We Can” Obama’s campaign, as she could not resist stating what she really thought and meant!

All these elections would be over before they started if the Liberals would just be honest!

  2. The most instructive lesson to be learned here is that this is his chief foreign policy advisor; the advisor who, I presume, would have advocated that he gladly extend a hand to nefarious totalitarians. . . all in the name of “understanding.”

And yet his prominent advisor can’t even shut up about an American political rival. The idea that experience isn’t important has officially been put to rest.

Still more important though is what the Beast alread alluded to. The flanks of either party tend to view those they disagree with in black and white terms. For Barack, Hillary is the opponent so she must be a “monster.” And yet while Hillary is a “monster” it is perfectly acceptable to seek understanding from the worlds leading thugs, goons, and monsters. Is this any way to govern?

This week has been an utter disaster for Obama and I am waiting for Andre and Wes to gleefully weigh in on their party. Hello? Andre?? Wes??

  3. If Dr Power had to resign over telling the truth calling Mrs Clinton a monster, why should Mrs Clinton herself be able to get away with this:

I think that I have a lifetime of experience that I will bring to the White House. Sen. John McCain has a lifetime of experience that he’d bring to the White House. And Sen. Obama has a speech he gave in 2002.
